On page , he discusses the use of facts in writing. Referencing the earlier essay that he had reprinted about his dying brother-in-law, Murray noted that all of the facts regarding that day were not in the essay. Murray did not want to repeat the facts about why his brother was dying, and where the event was occurring. He simply wrote for therapy purposes, and by excluding these unnecessary details, accomplished his goal.
Whenever someone sits down to write, they have a goal. Even if Natalie Goldberg sits down to write, she has a goal, at least, of writing. Even if someone is writing just to write, they still have a goal, and many times, focus is necessary to achieve this goal. Although I agree with Murray that all writing is based on our perception and experience and is therefore autobiographical, I think that, personally, this reading did a fantastic job of demonstrating why limited truth is necessary in the writing process.

My one suggestion is to add page numbers consistently for both direct quotes and paraphrases. Your first step is to gather background detail. Most memoirs, however, tend to flow chronologically. That is, they run through events in the sequence in which they happened.
